Psychosomatic Osteopathy

As Torsten Liem, MMSc., DO, DPO, demonstrated with his pioneering approach to psychosomatic osteopathy how interconnected the body, emotions and life story are, I was deeply inspired by this philosophy. Based on this understanding, I developed my own method that connects osteopathy with clinical psychology, NLP and EMDR. My personal approach builds on Liem's vision through the practical integration of these new techniques - thus, I tailor each therapy to exactly what the mother, baby or adult really needs at that moment. This creates space for holistic healing: through working on the body and emotions, conscious connection, liberation from old blockages and strengthening inner resources.

This approach provides greater awareness of one's own body, one's own needs and inner resources. It brings patients more than "classical therapy": in addition to the technical release of blockages, they also gain understanding of their inner processes, support in emotional growth and a greater sense of their own strength and presence. Psychosomatic osteopathy helps restore a sense of balance, brings relief on many levels and leads to a deeper sense of health and well-being.

Symptoms for which patients may benefit from psychosomatic osteopathic therapy include:

  • tension, back or neck pain

  • digestive problems (abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea)

  • insomnia, difficulty sleeping

  • tinnitus

  • chronic fatigue or exhaustion

  • long-term pain without diagnosis

  • inner tension, anxiety, nervousness

  • emotional burden, depressive moods, consequences of chronic stress

Even when there are no pronounced symptoms, psychosomatic osteopathy is useful:

  • when there is a feeling of discomfort, disharmony or alienation from one's own body

  • after stressful events or trauma

  • to strengthen self-regulation, resilience and internal balance

  • when classical therapies have not provided the desired success

This approach can bring a new sense of balance, better physical and emotional health, and help you find new ways to cope with life's challenges.

What does psychosomatic osteopathic treatment look like?

Psychosomatic osteopathic therapy proceeds through several clearly defined, but adaptable steps:

  1. A detailed initial interview (anamnesis): what are your physical symptoms, your life story, emotional burdens, and the strategies you have used so far.

  2. Together we define the goals and framework of therapy. We learn to listen more carefully to the signals of the body and emotions.

  3. Through targeted osteopathic techniques and special exercises, as well as psychoeducation, stability is strengthened, stress is reduced, and the nervous system is regulated.

  4. In a safe environment, as needed and with methods such as EMDR, tapping, or working with internal imagery, we gently open and process blockages – the goal is to release old patterns and build new resources.

  5. Finally, we analyze how new experiences and a better sense of body awareness can become part of your everyday life.

A single therapy session usually lasts 60–90 minutes. The exact methods and sequence are always adapted to your needs and current condition.
