NEWBORNS

In infants, osteopathy does not only look at the symptoms at a given moment, but also acts preventively on possible developmental or functional disorders - such as asymmetry, breastfeeding problems, colic, sleep disorders or motor skills. Treatment is always adapted to the age and specifics of each child. Each child is observed individually, and the plan and method of treatment are always adapted to their personal needs and condition.

An osteopath working with newborns must be fully familiar with the specifics of child development and be trained in recognizing normal and abnormal growth patterns and reactions. Therefore , it is extremely important that an osteopath working with newborns has additional and thorough training in the field of pediatrics . Only in this way can it be ensured that each treatment is truly appropriate, safe and gentle for the child. With expert knowledge, experience and understanding of children's developmental stages, an osteopath can gently help resolve functional problems and support the newborn on his individual path to healthy development.

According to scientific studies to date, osteopathic treatments for newborns and infants are extremely safe when performed by a qualified therapist - no serious side effects have been reported, and adverse reactions are very rare and mild in nature.

Leading osteopaths and pediatricians emphasize that osteopathy in children should be a complement to classical medical care, especially for functional problems where gentle techniques and holistic care are desirable.

Where osteopathy can be helpful with newborns

  • After difficult or complicated births (e.g. cesarean section, vacuum, forceps)

  • For deformities or asymmetries of the head and body after birth

  • With pronounced restlessness, excessive crying

  • Difficulty sleeping or poor sleep

  • Problems with sucking, swallowing and breastfeeding

  • The appearance of reflux, colic or digestive problems (flatulence, constipation, diarrhea)

  • For disturbances in motor development or movement

  • Premature muscle tension or limitation of mobility

  • Difficulty adapting to external stimuli, hypersensitivity, or frequent twitching

  • As a support for general improvement of well-being, calmness and balance

Important note for parents

Deciding to seek osteopathic treatment can be an important step in supporting your child’s health. If you have questions or are unsure whether osteopathy is the right choice for your child, talk openly with your pediatrician or a qualified osteopath. Every child is unique and deserves individualized attention and a gentle approach. The most important thing is that you and your child feel safe, understand each step of the treatment, and have confidence in the expertise of the person providing the treatment.
